Kristine W's New Single: "Walk Away"

I'm giddy as a schoolgirl!

I just heard the final version of Kristine W's new song, "Walk Away," which is getting shipped to radio this week. It's fantastic! Everything we've come to expect from an ultimate diva like Kristine :) Damn, can she sing!! It's a great "I don't need you anymore!" anthem for the brokenhearted.

She worked with DJ Tony Moran on this one, and the collaboration works. Actually, me and Johnny caught Kristine at her last Avalon Boston show... at the end of January, I think?... and she performed "Walk Away" then. It was awesome live, but I was reserving judgment until I heard the recorded version. You know how it is: you're all amped up to see one of your favorite performers, you've had plenty to drink, you're dancing... you're pretty much game to hear anything :) haha. But luckily, the song still rocks (or rather, dances!) in the light of sobriety.

So yeah, I heard that the promo CDs are starting to go out - so start requesting it at your clubs. I bet it won't be long before they're playing this one. Her next dance CD is supposed to come out by the summer of '07... and believe me, we plan to chat with her about that verrrrrry soon (hint hint!)

Has anyone else heard "Walk Away" yet? What do you guys think about it's chances on the dance charts? I was kind of bummed that her last single, "I'll Be Your Light," broke her record string of Billboard Club Play #1s. Beforehand, ALL her singles went to #1:
  • Feel What You Want
  • Land of the Living
  • One More Try
  • Stronger
  • Lovin' You
  • Some Lovin'
  • Fly Again
  • Save My Soul
  • The Wonder of it All
I think I have those in the right order... I'm sure any devout Kristine fan will be happy to point it out to me if I swapped any :)

Anyhow, "I'll Be Your Light" stalled at #2. Sooo frustrating! That's like failing a test by one point - haha. Wouldn't you rather just bomb the whole thing? What's really interesting is that it was the only other single off her "Fly Again" album, besides the title track, to have a video made. Guess the visual didn't help!

I have to say, I always thought it was a weird single choice. I mean, I really liked it, but the album version was one of the quieter, more reflective midtempo tracks. It seemed like an odd choice to remix and serve as a single when so many of the other songs were already upbeat and club-ready! Although the same was true of "Wonder of it All," and that one went to #1... so I guess it was just a matter of "all good things coming to an end." Oh well, it's still a pretty impressive streak of #1s. It even broke Madonna's record for consecutive hits!

Anyway, boys and girls... keep your ears open for this one. I have a feeling you will not be disappointed!

Let me know what you think of it!

Love, laughter, and Kristine frickin' W,
JADE

  1. I think the problem with "I'll Be Your Light" as a single was that several remixes had already been floating around for more than a year before it was "officially" released as a single. By that time, it had kinda already played out, I think. It wasn't really a new song to anybody, so people just kinda passed on by it.
