Amber Poll Results: SEXUAL is your Favorite Song!

Hey everybody,

It seems that every time you run a poll (political or otherwise) you have to do the necessary commentary afterwards. With that in mind, I thought it'd be fun to blog about the results of last week's poll on the homepage: "What's you're favorite Amber song?" (In retrospect, it probably should have been phrased as "favorite single" - oh well, you live, you learn!)

Here are the final tallies:

Aaaand in the final stretch of the race, SEXUAL pulls ahead for a one-vote win! (I feel like I'm calling a horse race.)

I'm not surprised that "This is Your Night" and "Sexual" led the pack; after all, they're her biggest commercial/pop hits to date. Plus, as older songs, they have the benefit of nostalgia and warm, fuzzy dance floor memories on their side.

But as Jade commented earlier this week, I was surprised that "If You Could Read My Mind" only got one vote. That was another big, mainstream hit. I would have expected more. Of course, it was a collaboration with Ultra Nate and Jocelyn Enriquez... maybe you all just don't like to see your divas share the spotlight!

I was also surprised that "Above the Clouds" got more votes than "Yes!"

I always thought of the latter as a bigger, more memorable song (by the way, did you see that it's included in the "Top 20 Dance Songs of the 2000s" list?). Of course, maybe hearing Amber sing that snippet of "Above the Clouds" on the homepage video reminded all of you what a cool song it is. Unfair advantage! Haha.

Funny, though. In general (and aside from "If You Could Read My Mind"), the votes seem to decrease from old songs to new ones. Which raises the question: When asked a question like this, how much do we judge a song based on the song itself, and how much of it is based on sentimentality? I mean, personally, I would consider Amber's latest song, "Melt with the Sun," to be one of her best of all time.

But I, too, can't help but have a soft spot for the classic hits. They're the ones you associate a lot of fun memories with... but I guess one day, the stuff we think of as new now will be the "golden oldies" that we fondly remember.

There's my food for thought. Let me know what you think. Leave a comment, and definitely check out the new poll on the homepage!

Later,
JOHNNY
