BRITNEY cancels on CYNDI... cause she can't lip sync!

Diva catfight alert!!

Perpetually strung out (and always blaming others) Britney Spears has hit a new low: she backed out of a concert date with Cyndi Lauper because she wouldn't be allowed to lip sync!!

I know, I know... is there anyone out there who STILL believes that Britney sings live? (Having seen her concerts before - go ahead, mock me if you will - I can tell you that's not the case). But regardless, it's pretty sad when a pop "icon" (I use the term loosely here) like Britney has to pull out of a show, rather than actually... you know, perform.

Here's the deal. Cyndi is currently touring on the True Colors tour, a concert tour that's focused on bringing attention to gay & lesbian civil rights. The shows are hosted by Margaret Cho, and feature Cyndi, Debbie Harry, Erasure, The Gossip, The Misshapes and Boston's own Dreseden Dolls (represent! ;) ) Guests like Rufus Wainwright, The Indigo Girls and Rosie O'Donnell have stopped in over the course of the tour, too. Here's hoping Rosie didn't sing any of her famous... umm... "poetry!"

True Colors

Anyhow, the tour wrapped up just a few days ago, on June 30 in Los Angeles. Britney was supposed to be a surprise final guest, and it probably would have been a good opportunity for the diva to reconnect with her gay fans. They've been among her most supportive over the years, and I think we can ALLLL agree that she desperately needs some good PR. But unfortunately, it was not to be.

According to a source close to Cyndi (who organized the tour), Ms. Lauper wasn't going to let Britney get away with faking it:

"There's no way. Britney said she would only dance or lip-sync - and to be on stage with Cyndi, you have to actually perform. It's not happening now."

This is the second time in the last few months Britney has let down her gay fans. Let's not forget the end of May, when she staged one of her "comeback" shows at a Miami gay club to a very unenthusiastic audience. At the time, the New York Post reported that...

The crowd, full of "trannies and gay guys," according to our spy, sneered at "those hideous white go-go boots and ratty extensions." One particularly unimpressed audience member: Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone, who told our source, "My sister would never go onstage looking like that."

Damn right Madonna wouldn't go on stage like that. And props to Cyndi for not letting Britney go on stage without doing it live, too! That Cyndi... she's a real "the show must go on" kinda gal. Anyone remember her show at Cape Cod a few years back, when a bird pooped right in her mouth??? She collected herself calmly... and PLAYED ON! I couldn't believe it!! (Lucky for you guys, I DON'T have any pics of that ;) )

Anyway, Britney needs to get her act together. I mean, I was feeling bad for the girl for a while... especially when she sunk to head-shaving lows. It's obvious she was a young, impressionable, naive girl who got taken advantage of by the music industry and now barely knows how to act like an adult. But come ON. Now she's flashing her crotch everywhere (and it's not the kind of crotch you want to flash, evidently!)... she's serving her own MOTHER with a restraining order for forcing her into rehab... she's making Kevin Federline look like a fit parent... and she's mucking up opportunities for career rescuscitation.

At some point, she's GOT to start taking responsibility for herself!

Oh, Britney... how we miss the good old days. Click the iTunes link below if you need to be transported back in time to better Britney days of yore...

  1. Plus I heard that fans were paying up to $120.00 a ticket to see Britney at her recent "comeback" performances, which sounded like the equivulent (and length) of a drag queen lip-synch show at some backwater gay bar. Hell, the said backwater bar drag queens would be charging far less than Brit. No wonder some people feel like they've been gypped.
